Press Release
The AML Network issues a press release when there is something formal to put on the record: a change to what we publish, a new or restated dataset, a correction to earlier work, or a response to a supervisory or legislative decision that bears on it. Releases are short, dated and written for direct republication. They are not a substitute for the underlying material, and each one links to the report, database section or news item it concerns.
What we publish here
The archive below covers four kinds of notice.
- Formal notices — changes to our research methodology, sourcing rules, governance or funding disclosures, and any change in the scope of the work we undertake.
- Database launches and updates — new sections of the Watchdog Databases, expansions of coverage within the existing PEP, shell company, corporate laundering, real estate laundering, cryptocurrency exchange and offshore entity holdings, and any change to how records are structured or classified.
- Corrections and clarifications — where a report, database record or news item has been amended, we state what changed, when, and on what basis. Corrections are issued as releases in their own right rather than folded silently into the original.
- Responses to regulator decisions — where an enforcement outcome, supervisory action or legislative change touches published work. This includes developments under the FATF recommendations, the EU anti-money-laundering directives and regulation, the US Bank Secrecy Act framework and the UK Money Laundering Regulations.
Quoting and syndication
Releases on this page are written for the press and may be quoted in whole or in part without seeking permission first, provided the text is not edited in a way that changes its meaning. Newsrooms may run a release as a wire item, excerpt it within their own reporting, or translate it; where a release is translated, please note that it is a translation and link to the English original so readers can check the wording.
Tables and charts included in a release may be reproduced with attribution. Underlying data files, where a release links to them, carry their own terms, which are stated at the point of download rather than assumed from this page.
Embargoes and attribution
Most releases publish on issue with no embargo. Where a release accompanies a longer report, we may circulate it in advance to journalists who have asked to be on the distribution list. Embargo times are stated in the release header in UTC. Taking receipt of an embargoed copy is acceptance of the embargo, which covers publication in any form, including social posts, newsletters and broadcast trails. A broken embargo ends access to advance copies.
Attribute material to the AML Network on first reference and to the Network thereafter. Where a release quotes a named researcher, attribute the quotation to that person as well as to the organisation. Please do not attribute to us conclusions that appear only in the sources a release cites; where we are reporting a regulator's finding or a court record, the release says so, and that distinction should survive into your copy. A link to the release or to the database page it concerns is more useful to readers than a link to this index.
What a release is, and what it is not
A release states our position at the time of writing. It is not a finding against any person or company beyond what the underlying report or database record sets out, and it is not legal or compliance advice. Inclusion in a dataset reflects the sourcing criteria published with that dataset and nothing further.
Anyone named in our work may write to contest a record. Where we amend, the correction is published here with a timestamp and the original wording is preserved in the archive rather than removed, so that a release quoted by a third party can still be checked against what it said at the time.
